Fight fans have been waiting months for Manny Pacquaio to return to the ring and display his supreme boxing skills again. The long-awaited fight, which took place in Las Vegas this past Saturday (May 2nd), was a superb display of boxing skill at it's best. Manny Pacquaio knocked Ricky Hatton out in the 2nd round with ease. (I felt sorry for the more than 25,000 British fans who traveled so far to see their hero get knocked out in the 2nd round)
The pre-fight hype displayed Hatton as "more ready than ever". I must admit Hatton did look more ready than Pacman, and I even considered him as being the winner. I decided to give a slight edge to Pacman though.
Hatton came into the fight and disregarded his trainer's advice. Hatton charged at Pacman and decided to take the fight toe-to-toe with the best fighter in the world. Hatton was a complete fool for trying to fight Pacman this way. The last fighter who wanted to go toe-to-toe with Pacman was the great Oscar De La Hoya; and De La Hoya lost the fight due to that strategy. Pacman will meet any fighter toe-to-toe if he sees it fit to fight that way, but in this fight Pacman decided to box Hatton, and his strategy proved too skillful and masterful against the amateur skill of Hatton. Pacman weaved his way around the sluggish Hatton punches, and knocked Hatton out with a lightning bolt right-hook. This fight was short, but sweet.
Pacquaio's win solidifies his label as, "the best fighter in the world". Fight fans will now be awaiting the winner of the Mayweather - Marquez fight. Hopefully promoters will setup the next biggest fight in history, between the winner of the Mayweather-Marquez fight, and Pacman. The winner of that fight will undoubtedly be one of the best boxers in the history of the sport, and definitely the best fighter of today.
